Melo opts out

Carmelo Anthony Opts out – Still has a chance to sign with Knicks.

Carmelo Anthony has until July 1st to notify officially his opt-out and review other offers in free agency. The New York Knicks can still offer him a job but at what cost.

James says Heat needs to fill holes in team.

LEBRON JAMES – Exit interview.

“there’s obviously holes that need to be filled”

Lebron James is too hard on himself.

You gotta give this guy credit:

He’s been in 5 NBA Finals.
4 in a row, two championships.
4 MVP trophies.
10x All Star.

There’s no reason why the media should be giving him grief.
He’s already accomplished so much. Is it only because of the comparison to Michael Jordan? Lebron James has his own greatness to him and there’s no need for him to worry about his place on Mount Rushmore.

For Ginobili, a slam and sweet redemption

VIDEO: Play of the Day: Manu Ginobili muscles past Ray Allen and slams over Chris Bosh

SAN ANTONIO — If a year’s worth of bottled-up anger, frustration and guilt could be flushed in a single play, Manu Ginobili accomplished it Sunday night with a powerful drive against Ray Allen, finished by a thunderous, mouth-agape, left-handed throw-down over Chris Bosh.

The AT&T Center erupted with such force that shockwaves were surely felt in Ginobili’s native Argentina.

Earlier in the season, the 36-year-old Ginobili tried such a maneuver and strained a hamstring. Just a few weeks ago against Oklahoma City, he did it again and got blocked, badly, as he recalled it. His San Antonio Spurs teammates teased him.

“They actually made me promise that I wasn’t going to try that again, and I said, ‘Yes, I won’t try that again,'” Ginobili said following

VIDEO: Media Day: LeBron James

SAN ANTONIO —LeBron James arrived back in San Antonio for a short media session Saturday afternoon in a pleasant mood, low-key and cordial. The Miami Heat’s far-and-away best player in their so-far disappointing NBA Finals didn’t attempt to airbrush the reality of his team’s dire predicament. But neither was he here to concede that their bid for a first three-peat in the NBA since 2002 was DOA.

“You either don’t make the playoffs or you win a championship,” James said. “There’s no in between.  I don’t want no first-round victory, no second-round victory, no Eastern Conference finals. Either I don’t make the playoffs or I would rather get my two months off, get my body rested or win the Finals. I don’t want no in between.”

The odds are heavily stacked against him. No team in league history has recovered from…

More ‘Nasty’ needed from Leonard

VIDEO:Kawhi Leonard talks about the challenges he’s faced dealing with LeBron James

MIAMI — The “easiest target in sports” has been anything but for San Antonio Spurs forward Kawhi Leonard through two games of these NBA Finals.

Even before cramps snatched him from the picture in Game 1, Leonard had his hands full dealing with Miami Heat star LeBron James. If the Spurs are going to have any chance of stealing Game 3 tonight at AmericanAirlines Arena, they need a little more, as Spurs coach Gregg Popovich has been known to call it, “nasty” from the soft-spoken Leonard.

Leonard has just four rebounds through two games and hasn’t been able to slow James down much. Plus, Leonard fouled out of a game for the first time in his career in the Spurs’ Game 2 loss. Basically, he’s been a shell of the aggressive and physical player…

Knicks new Head Coach Derek Fisher talks about New York

Knicks new Head Coach Derek Fisher talks about New York

With the current competition in LAC, OKC, HEAT, SPURS, HOU, and POR. It’s hard to imagine the New York Knicks winning a championship in the next 5 years. There’s a chance of luck but basketball isn’t about luck.

A team needs to have guts, determination, and a passion to win.

All of these characteristics have been a part of the way Derek Fisher has played in his long basketball career. That says a lot about a person and throughout the years he’s proven himself a worthy competitor. If the Knicks can climb up to be worthy competitors, I see it as “mission accomplished”.

Report: Fisher will be next coach of Knicks

VIDEO:According to reports, Knicks bring on Fisher for five years, $25 million

The New York Knicks addressed their coaching vacancy, bringing on Derek Fisher to be their next head coach, according to reports. Fisher just wrapped up his 18th NBA season — his third with the Oklahoma City Thunder — with a six-game defeat to the San Antonio Spurs in the Western Conference finals. He rejoins Knicks president Phil Jackson, whom he teamed up with to grab five NBA titles as a point guard with the Lakers. The reported contract is for five years, $25 million.

Fisher’s union role helped prepare him for Knicks head coaching job

VIDEO:Reports: Knicks hire Derek Fisher

Most people, when they hear the news about Derek Fisher becoming the head coach of the New York Knicks, think of the veteran NBA point guard, the longtime Los Angeles Lakers role player who entered the league with Kobe Bryant in the 1996 Draft but was an adult, and ageless, from start to finish in his 18-year career.

Me, I found myself thinking of a different Fisher as multiple outlets reported his hiring as Knicks coach by Phil Jackson, New York’s ballyhooed new basketball boss, and Fisher’s old Lakers coach.

I thought of Fisher, the union president who helped navigate the National Basketball Players Association through the divisive 2011 labor lockout.

That’s where Fisher might have an edge over other former players who were hired with no prior coaching experience.

What Fisher had to do as union prez sure seemed a…

A Legacy is Born

The 2014 NBA Finals bring us two teams that are going to leave behind a legacy to remember.

The San Antonio Spurs have already won 4 championships with this team and a 5th would put them on top of mountain-like proportions. The faith and future after this year seems hard to imagine them winning a championship without Duncan, if he finishes after this season. Tony Parker hasn’t had a healthy postseason the last two years and playing basketball is weighing in on him. This could be their last year to DO IT. Their legacy with all the accomplishments from past years can still improve tri-fold by beating their last year’s opponent the MIAMI HEAT. This’ll put the San Antonio Spurs into “Mount Rushmore” territory of NBA teams.

The Miami Heat have reached the NBA Finals 4 years in a row. This places them in a league with only the Celtics and Lakers to do so. They’ve won 2 and a 3-peat is possible. Lebron James is in his prime and can continue to create splashes of greatness for years to come. The faith of his legacy is different than of the teams. He can continue to be a great player who accomplishes goals and beats records. A team legacy such as the Lakers, Celtics, Bulls and now the Spurs includes championships and domination. THIS year will be their deciding moment of greatness.

JUNE 3rd – Mark your calendar – NBA Hearing on Donald Sterling

The NBA has set a date for Donald Sterling to reply back to the hearing on June 3rd. The date to reply back is May 27.

Things are moving quite fast. It appears the NBA wants no part in prolonging this. While Donald Sterling is still mailing letters of his innocence and denial of any further payments. Maybe he is stuck in the past when things were a little different than today’s world. This would give him and others a rude awakening.

On June 3rd, the Board of Governors will have a special meeting regarding this matter. They will likely vote on the dismissal of Donald Sterling as an NBA team owner. They need three-fourths of the 29 owners to do it.

The NBA Finals start on June 5th and the hearings will be a 2-day process. It is commendable and righteous that the NBA Commissioner Adam Silver has pushed this forward to a maximum velocity. Image

Mike Dunleavy

Who’s the next Head Coach of the NY KNICKS?

Phil meets with Mike Dunleavy Sr.
Knicks and Phil Jackson supposedly aiming for Mike Dunleavy Sr.
Finally, a candidate with some mileage. There aren’t a lot of them left.
Obviously, Phil is gonna have to hire a coach no matter what. So, let’s look at the candidates.

1. Mark Jackson
2. Mike Dunleavy Sr.
3. My personal favorite Steve Smith
4. Derek Fisher is in the mix.

Experience is a big factor for Phil and the Knicks.

They need to know how to handle personnel, players and be comfortable in the role. From the choices the experience of Mike Dunleavy would be the right choice. Carmelo is a big ego in NY and taming a larger than life player isn’t an easy task for any coach, let alone a rookie one. I’m not sure if Dunleavy though has what it takes, then again neither did Steve Kerr.
